The direction in architecture, called the loft (from the English word "loft" - "attic") originated about seventy years ago in the New York industrial districts. At this time, due to the rising cost of land located in the centers of large cities, the owners of factories and factories began to withdraw their production to the outskirts of megalopolises, leaving huge unnecessary but still good rooms empty.

The industrial buildings that were not used for the intended purpose were of interest to the bohemians, who were attracted by the characteristics of these structures:

  • high ceilings;
  • good lighting;
  • low prices.

All this monstrous mixture, seemingly incompatible, is a feature of the loft style, which is often also called the industrial or industrial style. Everything is possible here. Fans of life in the "attic" can successfully use in the interior a lot, which is done with the use of metal, stone, brick, glass, precious woods.

First of all, be sure to take into account that this method of home decoration implies the presence of considerable space in it, unlimited by walls or large furniture. Only supporting columns can be left in the room. At the same time to divide the space into zones often use sliding doors or an accordion-type, which can be glass, wooden, metal or be decorated with rivets, hoops, screeds.

Loft-style doors can be made of solid wood, MDF, or even PVC. The main thing is that they in appearance should meet the requirements of industrial style. Glass doors in this case are also a good choice and look great, but, really, in order for them to always please the eye, they need constant care.

Metal massive doors well emphasize the industrial orientation of the New York style. But their use as interior is not always convenient. It is better to choose light metal doors with elements of wood or MDF, decorated with glass inserts or decorative forging.

In color, doors can be black, dark gray, dark brown, red-brown.

Along the wall

A timber is attached to the wall and a guide is installed to move the rollers. The rollers, in turn, are connected to the door leaf at its top at the top. To prevent the door from vibrating below, a flag is attached to it that moves in the groove of the floor. The doorway along with the guide is trimmed using platbands and finishing strips. With this method of installation of sliding doors, low protection against the penetration of odors is provided, as well as poor sound insulation and heat insulation.

Doors "book" and "accordion"

Such doors have several movable elements (two for the "book" and more than two for the "accordion"), connected with the help of hinges. In their upper part or lower part they have rollers moving along the guide. An important advantage of these doors is that their sash folds. These doors are good to use as interior doors, and for the pantry, and for wardrobe.

Coupe type doors

These doors, moving on rollers and used as interior doors, are available in standard sizes. They, unlike compartment doors for cabinets, are not so thin and heavier considering their purpose and have a lock and a handle that differ from similar elements used in hinged doors. Such doors can have one or two canvases. Models are produced in which the web is moved both along and inside the wall.

Roto-doors

This type of door is a compromise between swing doors and sliding doors. When they are opened, the door leaf is rotated, which in this case is not only installed perpendicular to the opening, but can also move either to the left or to the right. Opening the roto-door requires much less space than in the case of using an ordinary door as an interior door, and good tightness is ensured due to the special seal along its perimeter.
